It’s March and we are celebrating Birthday Month at OFS Smart Repair! Yay!
Who doesn’t love a good party and blowing out those Birthday candles? (Even though those candles seem to be increasing rapidly) But as we age – or should I rather say “mature”- we start noticing visible signs of aging.
With a new era of skincare dawning in the industry we are going “defcon 4” on lines and wrinkles and restoring and rejuvenating skin like never before.
But before we get started we need to clarify a few of the new terms we are hearing in the industry…
Buzz Terms right now:
- Collagen Induction
- Neocollagenesis
- Dermastamping
- Dermarolling
- Micro-needling
- Mesotherapy
All of the above refer to treatments involving using a very fine surgical needle of sorts and causing a controlled injury to the skin. This in turn sets off a chain of events in the skin that heals the skin and helps rebuild natural collagen in the skin.
After the needling part of the treatment, specific serums and masks is applied. The absorption of products is much higher and penetrate much deeper, to aid in plumping and firming of the skin.
Wow! Sounds great. But that’s a lot to take in, it sounds painful and many of us tend to run the other way at the mere thought of a needle!
Don’t despair. Surgical needle treatments (as refereed to above) are conducted after using a thorough numbing solution on the skin so there is minimal discomfort.
But why is stimulating collagen such a crucial component of successful anti-aging treatments?
As we age we tend to lose collagen due to factors such as UV exposure and free radical damage and eventually somewhere in our 30’s, we stop producing collagen altogether. Tragic! And even more tragic, collagen takes REALLY long to reproduce – up to 10 weeks to grow with ultimate reparation only happening from 3-6 months.
The other interesting treatment making headlines is PRP therapy.
Often referred to as the “Vampire facial”. Eek!
But really it’s not as bad as it sounds – blood is drawn and through a spinning process Plasma Rich protein is extracted and separated from the platelets. This “elixir of youth” is then re-applied to the skin and man are the results amazing!
I know it feels like a hamster pacing on a wheel trying to process all this information but the bottom line is that the results are amazing and treatments often have very little downtime.
With the benefits seriously outweighing any negatives, a variety of skin disorders can be treated: post acne scarring, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, sagging and aging skin- the list goes on…
Where can you find out more? Skincare clinics offering these treatments include:
Ask your skincare therapist for advice and to work out the best treatment plan to suit your needs. Also keep in mind that the proper home-care also plays a vital role in achieving optimal results.
So let’s celebrate birthday month the smart way and keep the “fountain of youth” as well as the champers flowing!
