Pull a Kate Moss and rock a Parka
It’s not like it’s ever really been out of style, but this season the humble parka has become the fashion pack’s main squeeze, lending it’s warm embrace to celebrities and street-style stars alike.
Seen at Vetements, Sacai, Etro, Tommy Hilfiger, Saint Laurent and Coach, 2017’s on-trend version of the parka is oversized (naturally), heavy-duty, and brilliantly functional.
The parka has long been code for cool, but its real glam era came when Kate Moss wore one, pants-less, on the cover i-D. Shot by Craig McDean, Moss stood, back to the camera and defiant in her khaki coat, with the words “God Save the Queen” painted across it. It was iconic.
Years later, she wore one for British Vogue, it’s oversized hood perched lightly on her head. And let’s not forget everyday Kate, who wears parkas at Glastonbury over denim cutoffs, with skinny jeans to pick up her shopping, or with a leather mini. If there’s anyone who can show us how versatile (but also how stylish) a parka can be, it’s Miss Moss herself.
Gorgeous graffiti garments
Want to give your Parka a bit of edge? Go Graffiti.
From hipster graffiti-inspired gear to neon graffiti styling, trending this 2017 season is super funky fashion looks that are incorporating the ultimate in street art.
Smartgirl Jeani is wearing the Graffiti Parka by Zara – with gold and blue metallic details, an adjustable waist cord, front pockets with flaps and white and pink graffiti detail, this Parka sure ticks all our favourite street style boxes.
How to wear your Parka?
Wear them over slim-fit jeans with ankle boots or sneakers for a relaxed look, or over a mini dress or fitted skirt to heat things up a little.
As the military inspired staple can sometimes be a bit casual, when rocking the look at the office DO add a heel for that instant touch of chic.
So Smartgirls, if you ever thought you had nothing in common with Kate Moss, think again…
